Here’s A Writing Opportunity for Computer Lovers

WorldStart.com is a website that is looking for articles on computer tips and techniques to put in their email newsletter.  When I checked this site out, their newsletter mailing list was 125,000 readers strong (rather impressive).

They’re looking for user-friendly tips that anyone can understand.  The World Start audience is not the intense computer geek. Their audience are folks like you and me.  Don’t assume the reader automatically knows where the “Control Panel” on the computer is.  They want detailed “computer tips for dummies” type of writing.World Start

Check out a few of their back issues to get a better feel for what they’re looking for.

World Start Payment and Article Rights

According to their website, payment is as follows:

  • $35 to $45 for 1 page (approximately 400 words). You get $35 if you don’t include screenshots and $45 if you do.
  • $45.00 to $55 for 2 pages (approximately 800 words).  Again, the lower number without screenshots and higher number with.
  • $55 to $65 for 3 pages (approximately 1200-1500 words).  No need to repeat the screenshot differential

Payment is made by check 7 days after your tip is published (the website was silent about accepting articles from international writers).

World Start usually buys all rights to your article, but that is negotiable.

If you’re interested, visit their Writers Guidelines page and use their query form.  They want you to pitch ideas first.  They have an extensive library of articles and they don’t want to pay for duplication.

World Start sounds like a hand in glove fit for tech writers and folks who love to write about computers.

Thanks! Sounds like a good idea. I will give it a shot and see what happens.
