Neat Little WordPress Plugin for Moving Comments

Moving WordPress CommentsI quickly found yesterday, that I needed a plugin to help me take comments from one post and place them on another. It’s not that I’m changing the content of the comments, it’s just that I felt the comment would better serve the community (not to mention keep me on track), if the comments were posted elsewhere.

Enter WordPress Plugin

I downloaded and installed the Move Comments plugin and it fixed my problem. The good thing about the plugin is that it is a quick and easy fix. The bad thing about the plugin is that if you have a lot of posts to choose from, it can be a bit cumbersome locating the posts to switch from and move to.

Move WordPress Comment Example

As I mentioned yesterday, Leigh shared the writing site Writers Access with the community. The topic came up on the Writing for Textbroker thread. As I saw that the Textbroker conversation was evolving into a Writer Access conversation, I thought it was worth investigating and writing a separate post on the subject.

Of course, as the Textbroker thread folks saw the conversation on the Textbroker thread, it only made sense to continue having the conversation there. Only, it got a bit confusing for me (and I’m sure for a few of you too) to follow two simultaneous conversations on the same topic.

Working with Move-Comment

After I downloaded, installed and activated the move-comment plugin, I was able to easily move the comments from one post to the other. What it does is it adds the “Move” option under the Comments section in the WordPress menu.

All I had to do is select the post I wanted the comments moved from in the “Move From” drop down menu. After selecting the post, the plugin displayed all comments for that particular post. I chose the comments I wanted moved, scrolled down to the bottom of the page and selected where I wanted the comments moved to from the “Move to” drop down menu. Viola! It was all done.

Other Options for Moving WordPress Comments

When I was searching for a plugin to solve my problem, I came across two other plugins that did the same thing. They were:

  • Move WordPress Comments: This plugin adds a form to every comment giving you the option to move it to another post. I didn’t choose this one because I don’t like a cluttered interface. My need to move comments is minimal so I thought this would be too much.
  • Simple Move Comments: I didn’t choose this one was because every screenshot I saw for the plugin showed German text. I didn’t want to take the time to download and install the plugin only to find the commands were all in German.

Now that I’ve solved that problem, I’ve still got to find the right plugin/theme/solution for the extremely long Textbroker thread. It’s unfortunate that my current theme doesn’t work with the built in WordPress comment pagination option.  Oh well, back to the drawing board.

    Hi Felicia,
That’s a nice tutorial. I love this addon I have been using it on Im Celebebrating Life for a few months. I remember searching for a plug in that did this when a few of my readers commented on the wrong post. 🙂 I used to allow the author to edit their comments for a certain amount of time. I think I will use that again.
