Diversify for Sanity

There’s the eHow GRRRRR, the Suite 101 question as to whether or not it’s a Canadian holiday, and the Kontera notification of internal software update errors .

All sites have issues updating their numbers from time to time. Whether it’s the page views or the income numbers, there are times (it seems to be happening more and more frequently) when you go to check your numbers only to find that they haven’t changed.

Kontera Notification

Is it Them or Me?

You immediately wonder if you have lost your touch and on one is looking at your articles or if there’s a site problem. Some sites make it easier to determine whether or not it’s you or them. Thankfully Suite 101 lists the last date updated and Kontera shows the System Maintenance message, and eHow…well, I’m thankful for the eHow community. Once I see the GRRRR post, I know the numbers have not updated.

Protect your Sanity

For this reason, you must diversify your income. I’ve already addressed the obvious reason forInsanity diversification. You know that eggs in basket thing. Now I’m talking about diversifying for your sanity. You don’t want to park yourself on your computer and constantly refresh your screen to see if your numbers changed. That is counterproductive and the longer the numbers stay the same, the more you begin to feel your sanity slip away.

When I find one or two sites are not updating, I move on to the next in line of my income producing sites. I have no less than 10 other sites to check (probably more). By the time I do the rounds, if site number 1 didn’t’ update, that means its time for me to do some more writing and forget about it until later. Obsessing about the stagnant numbers is bad for my mental health. (and yours too)

  1. Great post, I totally agree that you need to diversify, especially in these days and times.

  2. Good post – I am diversified all over the place! LOL The GRRRRRR will hopefully become a little bit less now. Looks like eHow is making some changes… We’ll see!! BTW, I finally subscribed to your blog! :)
